About the Division

The Greenways and Natural Lands Division encompasses operations and programming of natural lands, trails, landscaped roadway medians, neighborhood/community parks, and boat ramps.  For more information contact Bryan Nipe, Greenways and Natural Lands Manager, at 407-665-2001 or bnipe@seminolecountyfl.gov.

What are the Natural Lands?

The Natural Lands Program was established in 1990 by a voter-approved referendum. The Natural Lands now consist of over 6,600 acres of land stretched across Seminole County. The largest parcels are called wilderness areas. Seven wilderness areas and one preserve are open to the public for passive recreation.

Where are the Wilderness Areas?

Seven wilderness areas and one preserve are open to the public. Directions, maps, descriptions and photos are available of each: Black Bear, Black Hammock, Geneva, Chuluota, Lake Proctor, Econ River, Lake Jesup, and Spring Hammock Preserve. What activities are allowed on the Wilderness Areas?

Animals-Plants-KidsPassive recreation is allowed on all wilderness areas open to the public. Other access may be allowed with a permit *.

  • Photography
  • Horse-back riding
  • Special events at the Ed Yarborough Nature Center *
  • Camping at the Geneva Wilderness Area
    on weekends by permit. *

How can I become involved?

There are many different volunteer opportunities available through the “Partners in Preservation” Natural Lands Volunteer Program.
